1/1/10-5/31/10
A total of 50 species of butterflies were reported in the first five
months of 2010, compared to 50 species reported in the first 5 months
of 2009, 43 species reported in the first 5 months of 2008 and 47
species reported in the first 5 months of 2007. For the third
consecutive year, butterflies emerging during the first 5 months of
2010 tended to emerge on dates either consistent with or earlier than
they did in the previous year. Of the 50 species that emerged
during this reporting period in 2010, 23 emerged within a week of their
date of first emergence in 2009 and 22 species emerged at least a week
earlier than they did in 2009. Only 4 species emerged at least a
week later than they did in 2009.
