Gray Hairstreak Strymon melinus
Status: Uncommon Flight Time: Late April - Oct., multiple broods Habitat: Ubiquitous Adult Food Source: A wide variety of native and alien plant species Larval Host Plant: False Indigo (Amorpha fruiticosa), Tick-Trefoil (Desmodium), Alfalfa (Medicago), Bush Clover (Lespedeza), Clover (Trifolium), Smartweed (Polygonum), Dock (Rumex) and many other plants. Feeding is mainly on flowers and fruit. Winter Stage: Chrysalis Comments: Unlike many other CT hairstreaks, the Gray Hairstreak can often be found with its wings open when at rest.
